"...grant us one more hour to perform our art and perfect our lives."
- Jim Morrison
The Layton Performance Ensemble was founded in the spring of 2005 and is more commonly
known as simply, "LPE."   Through the efforts of the Layton City Council and its Mayor, LPE
received initial funding for its equipment and necessary start-up costs.    Although Layton City
considers LPE to be an autonomous organization, it continues to stand as its primary partner and
support.   The Layton Performance Ensemble is housed in the Layton City Armory and functions
under the organizational umbrella of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Where are We Going?
A Brief History
LPE is really two performing groups in one: a colorguard, and a drumline.   During the summer
season, the two work in tandem and perform in parades and community events.   There is no age
restriction for the summer performing group, and membership
typically ranges from ages 12-23.

The winter season is significantly different, as the units separate to form competitive units within
their own circuits: Utah Winter Guard Association, and the Utah Winter Percussion Association.
During the competitive season, an age limit is enforced and no one over the age of 21 is allowed to
compete with the colorguard, and the age of 19 for the drumline.
Who We Are
The direction of LPE has morphed over the years, but the vision has remained constant: create a
meaningful experience for youth within the performing arts.   Our target demographic is the youth
ages 12-18 of the Layton community.   Our current and future efforts are designed around getting
more of the youth within our own community involved with us, but we will not turn away those
from surrounding communities that wish to become members.

We have future hopes of adding a brass section, increasing our funding to provide proper
instrumentation, and hope to get further collaborative efforts and performances with other local
performing groups.
